Botankios /
ego receiver

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it,
did it make a sound?
In this series of drawings entitled Botanikos / ego receiver, I envision the figure functioning as metaphor for those of us who understand the spirit and knowledge of our environment growing out of our body and out of our breath in juxtaposition to those with agendas who seek to profit from the unsustainable exploitation of resources.  The exhorting figure in these drawings configured both as victim and violator is a representational cast signalling the tenuous balance between nature and technology and the socio-political conflict between immediate survival and prosperity. The history of drawing among others is also the history of making visible the sound of things heard and spoken as well as the silence of forgotten truths and promises; a mediation between communication and deafness, between the conscious and the unconscious.
